About

Mahan Virtual Airline:

Mahan Virtual Airline began its official activities with Mahan Air accreditation on Dec 22, 2010.
Mahan Virtual Airline is a voluntary, not for profit organization, that fulfills a role to provide a structured, hands-on educational environment for aspiring pilots. The organization is affiliated to Mahan Air (Wiki). Although it is not financially linked to the Mahan Air.

Through partnership with the International Virtual Aviation Organization (IVAO), Mahan Virtual Airline provides an environment where individuals can learn about the principles of flying for an airline to a fairly advanced level, using available software to create a simulated ‘Virtual Airspace’ that is identical in navigational terms to the real world. This highly realistic system acts as a ‘knowledge gateway’ for aspiring pilots, by allowing them to assimilate some of the more challenging aspects of airline flying but in a relaxed and pressure free environment.

At the time there were only really some credible VA’s in Iran but all were based on fictitious airlines. So management team decided the first Iranian certificated airline.

Bases:

1. Mehrabad Domestic Flights Airport:
Mehrabad International Airport (Persian: فرودگاه مهرآباد) (IATA: THR, ICAO: OIII) is an airport that serves Tehran, Iran. It was the primary airport of Tehran in both international and domestic passenger traffic but has been replaced by Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA) in most of its international flights. It is still by far the busiest airport in Iran in terms of passenger traffic and aircraft movements, handling 12,094,218 passengers in 2009. The airport is located inside the city boundaries and is thus much easier to access than IKA airport.
Training, maintenance and engineering facilities of Iran’s National Carrier Iran Air, Iran Aseman Airlines, and Saha Airlines are located at this airport.
An aircraft engineering and maintenance company Fajr Ashian, has a maintenance hangar adjacent to main airport premises. The hangar is linked to Mehrabad Airport through a taxiway crossing “Tehran-Karaj” Highway. Fajr Ashian takes care of aircraft of many companies e.g. Mahan Air, Iran Air.
The change of international flights to IKA, finished in 2004, was gradual, starting with flights to countries bordering the Persian Gulf. All international flights have now been moved to IKA except flights to Saudi Arabia for Hajj and Umrah.
Mahan Air Destnations from Mehrabad are: Ardabil, Asalouyeh, Birjand, Bandar Abbas, Dezful, Iranshahr, Isfahan, Kerman, Kish Island, Mahshahr, Mashad, Shiraz, Sirjan, Zabol.

2. Imam Khomeini International Flights Airport:
Imam Khomeini International Airport (IATA: IKA, ICAO: OIIE) (Persian: فرودگاه بین‌المللی امام خمینی, forudgah-e bein-ol-melali-yé Imam Khomeini) is located in Ahmadabad, Iran. The airport is located about 30 kilometres (19 mi) southwest of the city near the localities of Robat-Karim and Eslamshahr. It was designed to replace Mehrabad International Airport, which is in the west of the city, now inside the city boundaries. The airport, originally designated as Ahmadabad, is now named after Ayatollah Imam Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the Iranian Revolution in 1979.
Mahan Air Destnations from IKA are: Almaty, Amritsar, Baghdad, Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi, Birmingham, Damascus, Delhi, Dubai, Düsseldorf, Istanbul-Atatürk, Muscat, Phuket

Mahan Air:

– The Company:
Mahan Airlines, doing business as Mahan Air, (Persian: هواپیمایی ماهان) is a private airline based in the Mahan Air Tower in Tehran, Iran. It operates scheduled domestic services and international flights to the Far East, Middle East, Central Asia, and Europe.

– History:
The airline was established in 1991 and began operations in 1992 as Iran’s first private airline. It joined the IATA in 2001 and as of March 2007 it has 2,511 employees. At its operational launch in May 1993, Mahan Air fleet was two Tupolev 154 aircraft, with a staff of 99 and a route network from Tehran to two domestic destinations. Growth was initiated with the addition of Airbus A300 wide-body aircraft to the fleet in 1999 and the Airbus A310 in 2001. This enabled the airline to reach beyond the regional destinations it served. Its route network now spans 28 destinations in 12 countries with a fleet of 25 Airbus and Boeing 747 aircraft. It holds 13% of all international flights from Iran, and 8% of the domestic market
